Managing Cover Credits

Track the artists, designers, and photographers behind your publication covers — with licensing and attribution details.

What Cover Credits Are

A cover credit records who created or contributed to a publication's cover artwork: the artist, designer, photographer, illustrator, or art director. Each credit includes the contributor's role, the image source (commissioned, stock, AI-generated), and the license type. This helps you keep accurate attribution records and know at a glance what rights you hold for each cover.

Feature Availability

Cover Credits is an optional feature. If you don't see Cover Credits in your sidebar, your workspace administrator may need to enable it in Workspace Settings.

Viewing Your Cover Credits

Click Cover Credits in the sidebar under the Manage section. You'll see a table showing:

  • Name (with role shown below)
  • Associated publication (and format, if applicable)
  • License type

Publication vs. Format Credits

When creating a cover credit, you can associate it with:

  • A publication: Leave Format as "All formats" — the credit applies to every edition of that publication
  • A specific format: Pick a format from the dropdown — the credit applies only to that format (e.g., the paperback has different cover art than the ebook)

If your publication uses the same cover across all formats, leave the format set to "All formats". If different formats have different covers, create separate credits for each format.

Tips

  • Record credits at publication time: Add cover credits when you finalize your cover — it's easy to forget the photographer or stock source months later
  • Use the license field for rights tracking: Knowing whether a cover image is royalty-free, rights-managed, or commissioned helps if you need to reuse or modify it
  • Record image source accurately: Marketplaces increasingly require disclosure of cover art provenance — record the source (Custom Commission, Stock Photography, etc.) so you have it on hand for retailer requirements
  • Link to portfolios: Adding the artist's website makes it easy to find them again for future projects or to credit them publicly
