Pull Quotes
Curate a publication's best review excerpts — formatted and ready to paste onto covers, websites, and social media.
What Pull Quotes Are
A pull quote is a short review excerpt paired with its attribution — "A masterful debut that kept me up all night" — Kirkus Reviews. Each publication has its own Pull Quotes collection: an ordered scrapbook of endorsements you can copy out whenever you're writing marketing copy for a launch, a promotion, or a retailer page.
Pull quotes live on the Publication Command Center — open any publication and click the Pull Quotes tab.
The Pull Quotes tab is controlled by two switches in Workspace Settings → General: the Pull Quotes feature toggle and the Pull Quotes switch under Publication Defaults. Both are on by default. If the tab is missing, check both switches — both must be on for the tab to appear on your publications.
Viewing Pull Quotes
Open a publication from the Publications list, then click the Pull Quotes tab. Quotes display as a vertical list of cards in the order you've arranged them — there's no table or filtering, because the list is meant to be a small, curated set.
Each card shows:
- The quote in italics, wrapped in curly quotation marks (added automatically)
- An em-dash and the attribution on the next line (e.g., — Kirkus Reviews)
- The source name in muted text — a link that opens in a new tab when a source URL is set
- A "Note:" line when the quote has internal notes
Adding a Pull Quote
- Click Add Pull Quote at the top of the tab
- Fill in the details:
- Quote (required): The excerpt text. Don't type quotation marks — curly quotes are added automatically on the card and in copied output
- Attribution (required): Who said it (e.g., Kirkus Reviews, Jane Doe)
- Source: Where the review appeared (e.g., Amazon, Goodreads, Publisher's Weekly)
- Source URL: A link to the review — turns the source name on the card into a link
- Notes: Internal notes, not included when you copy the quote
- Click Add Pull Quote
Reordering Quotes
Use the up and down arrows on the left edge of each card to move it. Each click swaps the card with its neighbor and saves the new order immediately — there's no save button. The up arrow is disabled on the first card and the down arrow on the last.
Copying a Quote
Click the Copy button (clipboard icon) on any card to copy a formatted attribution string to your clipboard:
"A masterful debut that kept me up all night" — Kirkus Reviews
The copied text includes the quote and attribution only — not the source name or URL. Paste it into cover copy, a website, or a social post, and add the source yourself if you want it.
Editing and Deleting
- Edit (pencil icon) reopens the quote in the same modal with all fields editable. Click Save Changes when you're done.
- Delete (trash icon) opens a confirmation dialog before removing the quote.
Adding, editing, and reordering quotes require an active subscription. Copy and Delete work on any plan, so you can keep using your collected quotes even without subscribing.
Tips
- Collect quotes as reviews come in: Add quotes early, even before launch — they're ready the moment you need marketing copy for a promotion
- Skip the quotation marks: The card and the Copy output add curly quotes automatically, so typing your own produces doubled quotes
- Order by strength: The list displays in your chosen order — put the quotes you reach for most at the top
- Use Notes for context: Record where you've already used a quote or any usage restrictions — notes stay internal and are never included in copied text
